Shop Happy

Wouldn’t it be great if someone could gather all of the cool, unusual and creative products locally made here in the North East of England and put them all under one roof, so when we’re looking for a quirky gift idea we have plenty to choose from.

Oh, wait.

The Glamorous Owl is one of my favourite independent shops in Newcastle city centre, full of surprises and affordable gifts (for family, friends and er…. me). TGO hosted their very first bloggers event earlier this month with plenty of tea and cake. Tucked away in Old George’s Yard, across the cobbles of High Bridge Street The Glamorous Owl is one of those shops you don’t know exists until you accidentally stumble upon it, or see something on social media and make a pilgrimage to go.

You’ll be awfully glad you did – especially with Christmas coming up! Owner of The Glamorous Owl Claire is also a wonderful silversmith and kindly taught us a thing or two about what she does and working with silver. Quite often, we can see handmade products and think “oh, they’re fantastic but a bit more expensive than I wanted to pay” and after Claire’s demo I totally understood why. So much time and skill goes into producing each piece – and the same goes for the local makers that Claire stocks in the shop.

It was lovely to catch up with my fellow local bloggers over a cuppa and slice of cake – I have a beautifully simple ring made by Claire with a simple silver heart on top and added to my TGO haul this evening with the most gorgeous original miniature watercolour of Newcastle for just £5.

So whether you’re looking for a new ipad case, piece of jewellery, candles so delicious you could eat them, home quirky or inspiring artwork, kitchenware or more – shop happy at The Glamorous Owl all year round!
